Had a nice day on the water yesterday with David, Wai and Dave. David and Wai were in town all the way from Canada to visit Dave and some other family here in Nashville. We had alot of fun all day and the weather was absoutly PERFECT for fishing. The recent cold front that passed through Sunday was still playing havoc on the fish and the strong wind made it very difficult to fish the way we needed to. While we did end up catching several fish, the highlight of the day was when David caught his fish on the LAST cast of the day!!! Everyone had a good laugh when Dave caught a largemouth that was literally barely longer then the worms we were throwing. Sorry Dave had to put it up. I sure enjoyed our day on the lake today and hopefully we can get back out again. All fish were caught in 8 fow or less on shakey head worms.

Fishing on Old Hickory has been pretty good the last couple week's with good numbers and some pretty good quality as well. Had a productive day today with numbers and although we didn't get to tangle with any big fish we still had a ball. Our most productive bite is still coming off river and creek ledges in 10-20 fow. I talk to a lot of people who are catching fish in the creeks beating the banks but as long as there is an off shore bite, that is where you will find me. The corp has been pretty good as of late about generating enough in the afternoons to produce enough current to get the fish positioned correctly on the drops which makes it easier to catch them when you find them. The water tempature has held pretty steady in the low to mid 80's on the river and hopefully will continue to hang around there for a while longer. Most of our fish have come on big worms, jigs, c-rigged plastics and big crankbaits. Most productive colors have been green pumpkin, watermelon and black and blue for plastics and natural colors with some chartreuse for the crankbaits. The schools are still hanging on those ledges so dont give up on the deep bite just yet!!!

This report is for the last 2 weeks. Fishing has defiantly picked up as far as numbers of fish being caught. We are catching quite a few fish on each trip and it continues to improve daily. We are catching numbers shallow with the better fish coming deeper. You can catch fish from less then 1 ft of water out to 30ft right now with tons and tons of fry up shallow holding huge numbers of fish from pulling out.  Early in the day we have been fishing shallow stuff until they turn the water on and then we are trying to stay on our deeper drops. We have been catching the majority of our shallow fish on squarebill's and sinko's around docks and Spro DD crankbaits, c-rigged plastics and jigs on the offshore stuff. Hopefully the water will continue to warm some on the river which should pull more fish out to the ledges before they get ready to head back to the creeks for their fall transition. We still have days available this month so give me a call and lets go fishing!!!

Got out with Edward from Hendersonville and enjoyed a great day on the water. Edward is new to town and was interested in learning some techniques that work well on Old Hickory. We went over several different techniques and strategies that have worked well for me. We caught several fish throughout the day and enjoyed great conversation all day. All fish were caught on jigs, t rigged plastics and crankbaits. Had an enjoyable day and look foward to our next trip.

This report is from a couple trips to Ky Lake. FIshing has been somewhat tough up there the last several weeks. With the rise in the water levels and huge increase of current, the fish that were ganged up on the ledges have seemed to scatter quite a bit. There are still a few few fish that you can find on the ledges but they have repositioned and seem to be on the back side's of the drops instead off to the side where we had been catching them. I had a few friends go up last weekend and lay the smack down on some fish with a frog so I decided to head up and give it a try. We ended up catching quite a few fish but not quite the quality my firends had. But our best 5 did go around 20 lbs so no complaining here!!! With the return of normal water and current levels the bite should improve over the next week. All fish were caught on Spro BRonze Eye Frogs and Shakeyhead Worms.

Me and a couple friends headed back to Ky Lake to try and get on some more ledge fish this past Sunday. While it wasn't our best trip up there we did end up catching around 30 or so with one over 6 and one over 5. They were pulling some very strong current due to the recent rains and it made it hard to get your bait down to the bottom before the current pushed it past you. All fish were caught on DD Crankbaits, Jigs, Shakeyheads, Spoons, Big Worms and C-Rig creature baits fished on main lake river ledges.

Fished a tournament last night on Old Hickory and it was the first time I have been out there in about two weeks. We found several river ledges holding fish including one that we caught over 20 fish out of in about 30 minutes. We had to weed through several small fish to find the bigger ones but were able to find several bigger fish. We ended up catching enough to finish 3rd which more then paid for our day.

Call today and book your ledge fishing trip and let me show you how to beat the summer heat and catch fish!!! The fish are still bitting if you know how to find them.

Just got back from an awesome weekend at Ky Lake and Barkley. What a great weekend we had catching tons of fish and ended up winning both tournaments we fished in. To say the ledge bite is on would be an understatement. The fish are stacked up on main and secondary river ledges right now and once you can get the school to fire it's game on. It took alot of graphing around to find the larger schools of fish but when you graphed them you could put a waypoint on them and within three or four casts be hooked up. It is all about knowing how to read your graph and knowing exactly what you are looking at. There were only a handful of times that we would graph fish and get up to fish and not get bit. Learning how to read and decipher the information your graph is giving you is the key to ledge fishing. It is the difference maker in an awesome day of summer time fishing and a day with no fish.    Best baits were jigs, big worms, dd crankbaits, shakeyhead worms and c-rig creature baits. Most of our fish came out of 20-35 ft of water depending on the particular ledge. The pics are of Brad holding a couple of fish that we caught throughout the weekend.

Got up to Ky Lake today and boy are we glad we went!!! Today we had our mind set on finding schools of fish on the famous ledges and we found them. We found several schools of bass hanging in 15-30ft of water and the LASHING began!!! We caught 60+ fish today and considering it was the first time we have been up there this year and fishing all new ledges not a bad day. Our best 5 was close to 20lbs with more 2 and 3 lb fish then we could keep up with. Fish today came on DD crankbaits, Jigs, Big Worm, C-Rig and Shakey Heads. The highlight of the day was catching this monster 60+lb catfish on a 6in shakey head. After a 20 minute fish we finally landed this monster!!!! As my partner was taking the above picture the fish was thrashing around whipping my tail hence the scowl on my face.

The image quality is a little poor bc I took the picture with my phone but his is a school of bass that we graphed and then commenced to laying the smack down on. If you are having trouble finding the fish on the ledges give me a call and I can show you the in's and out's of summertime ledge fishing and how to use your electronics to find and catch more fish.

Old Hickory Fishing Report 06/13/2013

Posted by ian on June 13, 2013

005.JPGSorry for the lack of reports over the last week life has been crazy busy. Well its finally getting that time of year on Old Hickory Lake when the ledge bite is on!!! Every year around now I get very anxious waiting on the big schools of fish to show up off shore and it seems Old Hickory is always a few week's later then surrounding lakes. Over the last week or so we have finally found a consistent bite offshore with daily improvement. Not only are we catching them on creek drops but river ledges are producing as well. The cool thing about river ledges right now is you can have your pick. There are very few boats fishing them right now which gives you unpressured fish that are far more likley to bite. It doesn't seem the quantity of fish are on the river yet but there is definitely quality. It gets tough on the river when they wont pull current to position those fish and without the big schools of fish out there right now it can seem like trying to find a needle in a hay stack. It shouldn't be long and the bigger schools should show up. The drops in the creeks are definitely hot right now with the bigger fish pulled off and looking to recoup. With a lot of boats hitting the obvious creek drops we have found pretty good success looking for the "not so obvious" drops. Also look for deep lead out banks that the fish will follow to get to their summer spots.  Our best baits over the last several weeks have been Spro Little John DD crankbaits, Strike King 6XD crankbaits, Upgrade Fishing 1/2oz jigs, C-Rig, and Big Worms. Most of our fish have come in about the 10 to 15ft range with some deeper. The top water bite is hot right now on Old Hickory if you can find the shad spawn. Best producing baits have been Pop R's and spook's. You may have to weed through a lot of shorts but there are some pretty good fish mixed in.

Do you struggle when the fish move offshore and the ledge bite turns on? Book a trip with me and gain that confidence you need to pull off the bank and find the big schools of bass on the river ledges. We can spend an entire trip on map reading and graphing ledges so that you will be able to find productive ledges and catch fish throughout the summer. The fish are there you just have to find them!!!

(Sorry for the lack of pic's. We have been fishing alot of evening tournaments and by the time the tournament is over its been to dark to take pic's)
