This report is for 04/29/2014- 05/09/2014.
Fishing has remained excellent on Old Hickory over the last several weeks. We have run many successful crappie and bass trips with lots of happy customers and even more delicious fillets.  The weather over then last several weeks has remained stable for the most part and the water temps have made it up into the lows 70’s. The water color in most creeks is back to normal or close to it after those rains we had put a heavy heavy stain in the water with the river still remaining pretty muddy and quite a bit cooler with temp in the mid to low 60’s.
The bass fishing has remained good with lot of numbers and action. The top water bite is pretty good right now and the weed beds have begun to get nice and green over the last week or so with the bite out of those beds being good right now as long as its low light or have a good wind pushing on them.  Also look for the shad spawn early in the morning around shallow banks and weed beds as it has just began and should continue to get better and better. Our best baits have been shallow running crankbaits, Santone spinnerbaits, buzzbaits, spooks and poppers, c-rigged Bass Kandi brush buster, frogs and a Santone swim jig.
The crappie bite has been awesome over the last several weeks with good numbers and unbelievable quality. I even had a customer say on a trip last week that our stringer looked like it came off Kentucky Lake!!! These fish are moving up in waves and the big ones are up eating and looking to spawn. We once  again had 3 fish over 2lbs this week with many more around that 1.5- 1.75lb mark. We are catching all of our fish on 1/8oz jigs with the best colors being chartreuse, chartreuse/white, white, blue/white and blue/chartreuse. Seems like some days these fish want these tubes on a bait like a roadrunner and others just a simple jig head does the trick.  We have been primarily focusing on 6-10 fow.
Here at OHGS we use brand new high grade fishing equipment from Denali Rods, Lews reels, Sunline fishing line, Santone Jigs, Fish Terror Baits, Bass Kandi soft plastics and other top of the line equipment. I am a United States Coast Guard licensed captain and 100% dedicated to making your trip the trip of a lifetime. I have dates available May so call today and get in on the best crappie action of the year.
