Sorry for the lack of reports over the last week life has been crazy busy. Well its finally getting that time of year on Old Hickory Lake when the ledge bite is on!!! Every year around now I get very anxious waiting on the big schools of fish to show up off shore and it seems Old Hickory is always a few week's later then surrounding lakes. Over the last week or so we have finally found a consistent bite offshore with daily improvement. Not only are we catching them on creek drops but river ledges are producing as well. The cool thing about river ledges right now is you can have your pick. There are very few boats fishing them right now which gives you unpressured fish that are far more likley to bite. It doesn't seem the quantity of fish are on the river yet but there is definitely quality. It gets tough on the river when they wont pull current to position those fish and without the big schools of fish out there right now it can seem like trying to find a needle in a hay stack. It shouldn't be long and the bigger schools should show up. The drops in the creeks are definitely hot right now with the bigger fish pulled off and looking to recoup. With a lot of boats hitting the obvious creek drops we have found pretty good success looking for the "not so obvious" drops. Also look for deep lead out banks that the fish will follow to get to their summer spots. Our best baits over the last several weeks have been Spro Little John DD crankbaits, Strike King 6XD crankbaits, Upgrade Fishing 1/2oz jigs, C-Rig, and Big Worms. Most of our fish have come in about the 10 to 15ft range with some deeper. The top water bite is hot right now on Old Hickory if you can find the shad spawn. Best producing baits have been Pop R's and spook's. You may have to weed through a lot of shorts but there are some pretty good fish mixed in.
Do you struggle when the fish move offshore and the ledge bite turns on? Book a trip with me and gain that confidence you need to pull off the bank and find the big schools of bass on the river ledges. We can spend an entire trip on map reading and graphing ledges so that you will be able to find productive ledges and catch fish throughout the summer. The fish are there you just have to find them!!!
(Sorry for the lack of pic's. We have been fishing alot of evening tournaments and by the time the tournament is over its been to dark to take pic's)
